Sterlin Gilbert has really made an impact on San Angelo Lake View. The Chief program was about as low as it could go before Gilbert was hired. He has worked wonders and has the Chiefs at 4-2 and 1-0 in district. The Chiefs win over Plainview was their first district win since 2005. So things are looking up on the north side for the Chiefs.

I gotta ask something I have always wondered about. I don't know San Angelo real well from a citizen's point of view (just a visitor's). Why does SA keep Lake View and Central two different classes? I know Angelo is comparable in size to Odessa and it seems they could field two 5A teams.

Lots of reasons, but for starters, San Angelo is not as big as Odessa. If the enrollments were even San Angelo would have two 4a Schools. If both were 5a they would be very small 5a schools.

Historically the admin has been afraid of direct competition between Lake View and Central. As in any town, there is the neverending argument of which school has better this or that, but Lakeview actually has newer facilites than Central does. Until three years ago, Central played at San Angelo Stadium and Lake View played at Lake View Stadium. Now that Lake View is playing at San Angelo Stadium things are starting to change. I think the past decisions by our admin have been ridiculous and hope at some point, Central and Lake View can start the season against each other. Good thing its not this year though, because Lake View would win.

Oh, thanks natlib. There is only a couple thousand difference in population, but I forget a lot of Angelo's citizens are college and retired.

Well, maybe they can get the two balanced a little better. Cross town rivalries are the best.

Can't wait to see Cooper play the Chiefs.

I'm not surprised Sterlin knows the game very well & hates losing I'm glad to see an ex classmate succeeding.

Does anyone remember Coach Joey McQueen when he coached at Lake View?

Lake View has made the playoffs for the first time sinced 2004. They barely squeezed in but all things considered the program has made a huge turn around. They play Dumas in Lubbock at lowery field on the 15th.
